Hi, I’m Sophie — the founder of Pearl & Thread.
I started Pearl & Thread because I wanted to create something that fit the life I’ve built while also giving me a sense of purpose outside of my role at home.
Being married to someone in the military means that life comes with a lot of moving, adapting, and starting over. As a military spouse, I’ve learned to be the person who keeps things running at home — and honestly, I love that role. But I also found myself wanting something that was mine. Something that allowed me to use my experience and creativity while still giving me the flexibility that my family and lifestyle require.
The idea for Pearl & Thread brought together three things I genuinely love: marketing, shopping, and caring for seniors.
I have more than 10 years of experience in marketing, but before that — and alongside my professional career — I also worked as a CNA in senior living and memory care. My experience caring for seniors gave me a perspective that I carry with me today.
I saw firsthand how everyday choices — including something as simple as choosing what to wear — can sometimes become more difficult after moving into a senior living community.
Something as simple as shopping for clothes can become difficult. Many residents rely on family members or caregivers to bring them clothing or choose things for them. And while those people are doing their best to help, opportunities for residents to simply shop for themselves, choose what they like, and feel a sense of independence can become few and far between.
That’s where Pearl & Thread comes in.
More Than a Boutique
Pearl & Thread brings the boutique shopping experience directly to senior living communities.
Residents can browse, touch, try on, and choose clothing and accessories for themselves — all without needing to leave their community.
But I don't just want to bring any clothing.
Every piece I curate is selected with the unique needs of older adults in mind.
I look for clothing that is:
Easy to put on and take off
Comfortable and non-restrictive
Practical for everyday life
Available in a variety of sizes
Stylish without sacrificing comfort
Thoughtfully chosen for the needs of seniors
You won't find racks full of complicated button-downs that are difficult to fasten, extremely tight or restrictive pieces that are challenging to get on and off, or pants that require complicated closures.
Instead, I look for things like comfortable fabrics, easy-to-wear silhouettes, elastic waistbands, simple closures, and pieces that allow residents to maintain as much independence as possible.
My CNA experience plays a huge role in this.
I remember helping residents choose clothing from their own belongings — thinking about what would be comfortable, what would be easy for them to put on, what they could manage independently, and, just as importantly, what would make them feel good.
I want to bring that same thoughtfulness to every piece at Pearl & Thread.
Because Everyone Deserves to Feel Good in What They Wear
Pearl & Thread isn't about dressing someone because they're a senior.
It's about giving them the opportunity to choose.
To find a blouse they love.
To pick out a new sweater.
To try on something just because they think it's pretty.
To get excited about a new outfit.
It's about creating a shopping experience that feels fun, social, and personal — while giving residents back a small piece of independence that can be so meaningful.
I believe style doesn't have an expiration date.
And every chapter deserves to be celebrated.
